Palestine: Hamas says Jerusalem bus bomber group member

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Palestinian group Hamas said Thursday that the man who attacked an Israeli bus in Jerusalem earlier this week was a member of the group.

At least 21 people were injured when a Palestinian bomber blew himself up on a commuter bus on Monday. The bomber was injured and later died at the hospital.

In a Thursday statement Hamas identified the bomber as Abdel-Hamid Abu Srour from the West Bank city of Bethlehem saying he was a group member.

The Palestinian group however did not claim responsibility for the attack.

There has been an uptick in tension across Palestine and Israel since October 2015 over Israeli restrictions on Muslim worship at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque and attempts by Jewish settlers to force their way into the flashpoint site.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed since October – most shot dead by Israeli soldiers following alleged knife or car attacks.

Thirty-four Israelis have been killed during the same period in a series of knife car and shooting attacks.
