S Korea's car sales drop 2.5 percent in August

(MENAFN) Sales of automakers in South Korea declined 2.5 percent in August from 2014 as foreign demand continued to be weak during a sinking global demand.

According to recent data, the total sales of the top five carmakers in the country came to 622,542 units last month, compared with the 638,771 units distributed a year earlier.

The decline is mainly credited to a drop in overseas shipments, which came to 502,142 units, down 5.8 percent from 2014, thus the cumulative sales for the five carmakers during the first eight months reached 5,738,685 units.

The five top companies are Renault Samsung Motors Co., Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp., GM Korea Co., and Ssangyong Motor Co, still some saw good sales figures eventually.
