Kuwait- Cases Of Absconding Expat Workers To Be Solved Soon

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Public Authority of Manpower's Assistant Undersecretary for Manpower Protection Affairs Badriya Al- Mukeimi said the problem regarding the absconding cases of expatriate workers will be resolved soon, pointing out the committee formed by the Ministry of Interior is working hard to come up with radical solutions, reports Al-Jaridah daily.

In a press statement, Al-Mukeimi disclosed the General Investigation Department refused to classify absconding cases as non-criminal records. She said the department had stressed the need to categorize absconding as a misdemeanor case, so it is legal to cancel the residence permit of the concerned foreign worker and deport him.

She affirmed the authority was established to protect the rights of workers and organize relations between the employers and employees according to the law. She then urged employers to lodge valid complaints and refrain from treating their workers unjustly to avoid legal problems.

Earlier, Director General of the authority Jamal Al-Dosari was quoted as saying that the authority received almost 12,000 absconding reports last year. He added the issue is now in the hands of the Ministry of Interior and any foreign worker who will be reported as absconding will lose his residence permit.
