Greek Workers Start a 24 Hours Strike
(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Athens May 01 - Workers in Greece started on Thursday a 24 hours strike coinciding with the Labour Day which led to disrupting rail and ferries services across the country.
Thousands of tourists were stranded after cancelling ferries trips to and from the ports of Piraeus and Rafina where sailors demonstrated against changes in their collective contracts of employment.
Thousands of public and private sectors' workers are preparing to gather in the Greek cities to demonstrate against the government for wasting money that has been collected as a result of austerity policies.
About a thousand police officers were deployed around the Greek capital Athens in anticipation of demonstrations.
Unemployment in Greece have reached a record level of 28%.
