(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The European Union has reiterated the need for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections on schedule .
A statement issued by the EU mission in Iraq said after a number of European officials paid visits to Iraq in the light of the resignation submitted by the Board of Commissioners of Iraq Electoral Commission, the Mission of the European Union and heads of European diplomatic missions reaffirm their full support for the independence of the election commission
The EU mission added that the independence of the Commission must be respected by all parties , calling on all political parties to hold a comprehensive, transparent and credible elections despite the security and political challenges
Members of the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday offered their resignations en masse to the Board, stressing that the reason for their resignation was the pressures stemming from the conflict between the legislative and judicial authorities The elections were scheduled to take place on next April 3
