Border Guards Receive 1944 New Syrian Refugees


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) A total of 1944 Syrian refugees, of different ages including the wounded and sick , entered the Kingdom through various illegal border points during the past 72 hours.



The Directorate of Moral Guidance said in a statement on Sunday that border guards stationed along the 376-kilometre border between Jordan and Syria, are working hard to protect the border



The statement added that the border guards received the refugees and provided emergency aid to the injure



The source added that the refugees were provided by first aid and were taken to shelters to be transferred then to Zaatari cam



The number of Syrian refugees who crossed into the Kingdom since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in March 2011 has exceeded 600,000 including thousands of injured and sic



In a related development, and in Mafraq, Syrian refugees at the Zaatari camp consume four million litres of water every day, camp director Colonel Zaher Abu Shehab sai



In a statement to Petra news agency today, Abu Shehab said that water is pumped from several nearby water wells and is transported to the camp with the help of special tanks



"One of the gates in the eastern part of the camp was assigned for this purpose," he said adding that currently, the camp absorbs more than 100,000 Syrian refugees, but was still to reach its full capacity though the influx of these refugees has been on the increase for the last few months
