Pashinyan’s Party Leads Armenia Election


(MENAFN) Nikol Pashinyan’s ruling Civil Contract party is leading Armenia’s parliamentary election, according to early results released after polls closed on Sunday.

Citing figures from the Central Election Commission, state media reported that Civil Contract secured 57.14% of the vote based on ballots counted from 110 out of 2,005 polling stations nationwide.

The opposition party Strong Armenia, led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, came in second with 21.4%, while the Armenia Alliance associated with former president Robert Kocharyan followed with 8.2%.

Polling stations closed at 8 p.m. local time after voting concluded for seats in the 101-member National Assembly. Preliminary data from the Central Election Commission indicated turnout at 58.97%, with nearly 1.5 million voters participating out of about 2.5 million registered citizens.

A total of 16 political parties and two alliances took part in the election. Civil Contract entered the vote holding 69 seats from the previous 2021 snap parliamentary election.
