FBI Seizes Millions in Gold, Cash, Luxury Items from Former CIA Official
(MENAFN) The Federal Bureau of Investigation has seized large quantities of gold, cash, and luxury goods from the home of a former senior intelligence official following allegations of fraud and deception involving a US government agency.
According to court filings and statements from US authorities, a search was conducted at the Virginia residence of David Rush last Monday. The operation was linked to an ongoing investigation, with further details emerging ahead of a scheduled federal court hearing in Alexandria.
Rush has been charged with defrauding the US government. Investigators allege that he provided false or misleading information about his academic credentials, military background, and service history in the US Navy, claims which were reportedly used to determine his compensation level.
In an affidavit supporting the search warrant, the FBI stated that Rush was employed by a government agency that has not been publicly named. The filing also indicated that the information disclosed was limited in order to establish probable cause for further investigative steps.
Authorities further allege that starting last November, Rush requested and received large amounts of foreign currency and gold purportedly for operational expenses. However, a review of storage areas at his workplace reportedly revealed only a small portion of the requested assets.
A subsequent search of his residence uncovered what investigators described as approximately 303 gold bars, each weighing around one kilogram, with an estimated total value of roughly $40 million. Officials also reported the seizure of about $2 million in cash along with 35 luxury watches, many identified as Rolex models.
The investigation is ongoing as prosecutors continue to examine how the assets were obtained and whether additional individuals or systems were involved.
