UN Reports Millions in Afghanistan Require Humanitarian Assistance
(MENAFN) According to reports, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan has warned that millions of people in the country continue to require urgent humanitarian assistance, while funding shortfalls are severely limiting the reach of relief operations.
Local media reported that around 21.9 million people were in need of humanitarian support during the first three months of the year across multiple sectors, highlighting the scale of ongoing humanitarian pressure in the country.
Although aid operations initially aimed to reach 17.5 million people, assistance was delivered to only about 4.7 million individuals, covering roughly 27 percent of the intended target, according to the report.
The agency also said that approximately 1.7 billion U.S. dollars was required to meet humanitarian needs nationwide, but only about 195 million dollars has been secured so far, representing just 11 percent of the required funding.
The report further indicated that children made up nearly half of all aid recipients, while women accounted for around 30 percent and men the remaining 21 percent, underscoring the broad demographic impact of the crisis.
Officials warned that the ongoing funding gap continues to restrict humanitarian operations and limits the ability to reach vulnerable populations across Afghanistan, where needs remain widespread and urgent.
