Erdogan, Trump Hold Talks on Regional Stability, Bilateral Relations
(MENAFN) Turkish and US leaders held a phone conversation on Wednesday in which they discussed bilateral relations alongside broader regional and global developments. The exchange focused on ongoing conflicts and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions across multiple hotspots.
According to Turkish communications officials, the Turkish president described the recent extension of the Iran ceasefire as a “positive development” and expressed optimism that contested issues could be resolved through pragmatic negotiation. He also reaffirmed that Türkiye would continue backing diplomatic and constructive efforts aimed at ending regional conflicts.
He further highlighted Syria as a key point of regional stability, stating that achieving long-term calm there would be a significant benefit for the wider Middle East. He added that Türkiye’s engagement in Syria would continue, while also stressing concerns about worsening conditions in Lebanon and the need to prevent further escalation.
The Turkish leader also noted that preparations are underway for an upcoming NATO summit scheduled to take place in Ankara, with efforts focused on ensuring its success across all dimensions. In addition, he conveyed condolences regarding a recent attack on a mosque in California and reiterated opposition to hate crimes targeting religious communities.
Following the call, the US president told reporters that the conversation had gone “very good,” emphasizing his personal rapport with the Turkish leader. He described their relationship as unusually strong, stating that it is uncommon for him to maintain such direct ties with certain global counterparts, and praised the Turkish leader’s leadership and influence.
He further characterized Türkiye as a strong partner, noting that while some may question the alignment, he views the country as a significant ally and said its leadership commands considerable domestic respect.
