Canada Revokes Top Honor from Convicted Former Aid Worker Peter Dalglish

(MENAFN) According to reports, Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon has revoked the Order of Canada from Peter Dalglish, a co-founder of the Street Kids International charity, following his conviction for the rape of two minor boys.

Dalglish was previously sentenced to 16 years in prison in Nepal in 2019 after being found guilty of the offences, according to reports.

The decision was published in the Canada Gazette, the official government publication, which stated that his appointment to the Order of Canada was terminated on April 15. He had originally been awarded the honor in 2016 for his humanitarian work.

According to reports, Dalglish spent decades working across several African and Asian countries, including Nepal, focusing on programs aimed at supporting vulnerable children. His career also included roles with international organizations such as UN Habitat in Afghanistan and a UN emergency response mission during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.

The Governor General’s office described the revocation as an “extraordinary measure,” stating that Dalglish “has acted in a manner inconsistent with the standard of conduct expected of members of this society,” according to reports.
