Trump Lands in Beijing for U.S. Presidential Visit

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump touched down in China Wednesday, kicking off a high-stakes three-day state visit against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Iran — the first trip by a sitting American president to Beijing in nearly a decade.

Trump departed Beijing Capital Airport en route to his hotel ahead of a packed diplomatic agenda. On Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping will receive Trump for summit-level talks at the Great Hall of the People.

The meetings are expected to cover an expansive and contentious agenda, with the Middle East conflict, Taiwan, and trade and tariffs all firmly in focus. Trump has signaled he intends to raise U.S. arms sales to Taiwan as well as the case of imprisoned Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai. Beijing, for its part, said the two leaders would discuss "major issues concerning China-US relations, world peace and development."

Trump arrived with a heavyweight delegation. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are among senior officials accompanying the president, joined by a prominent contingent of American corporate leaders — including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Tesla chief Elon Musk.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is also set to join the delegation in Beijing, traveling from South Korea where he held separate trade negotiations with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.
