Bannu: Rescue Operation Concludes, 15 Police Bodies And 3 Injured Recovered From Debris

In the Fateh Khel area of Bannu, a suicide attack was carried out on a police checkpoint during the night between Saturday and Sunday, where a vehicle packed with explosives reportedly rammed into the post, causing a powerful blast followed by intense gunfire.

According to police, heavy firing continued for a long time after the attack, and a search operation has been launched across the district.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan said that at the time of the attack, a total of 18 police personnel were present at the checkpoint, out of which 15 were martyred and 3 were injured. The injured personnel were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Police said the martyrs include Rahmat Ayaz, Sanaullah, Niaz Ali, Suhaib, Saadullah, Kamran, Nematullah, Abid Jani, Imran, Naimullah, Siddiqullah, Mir Alam Khan, Rahatullah Khan, and Farooq Dad, while the injured include Feroz, Hayatullah, and Fidaullah.

Police further stated that immediately after the explosion, militants opened heavy fire from surrounding areas of the checkpoint. Multiple explosions were also heard from a distance, spreading fear and panic in the region.

According to sources, communication with the Fateh Khel police checkpoint was also cut off for some time after the attack.

RPO Sajjad Khan personally led the police operation, and one police official was rescued alive after remaining trapped under the rubble for 10 to 12 hours.

Due to the intense blast, the entire checkpoint was reduced to rubble, while an armored vehicle stationed there was also completely destroyed. Nearby buildings, shops, and houses were also damaged, with several windows and shutters shattered.

Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in all three hospitals of Bannu.

Police have tightened checkpoints across the city, while citizens have also come out to support law enforcement agencies.

Security forces are closely monitoring the situation, and checking at entry and exit points has been further intensified.

Rescue 1122, police, and local residents are actively involved in relief and rescue operations.
