Trump Vows No Compromise on Iran’s Uranium Issue

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has privately assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington will not yield on the question of Iran's uranium program, Israeli media reported Saturday, as Tel Aviv watches US-Iran negotiations with mounting anxiety.

Israeli media cited an unnamed Israeli official who said Tel Aviv remained in a state of "constant anticipation" regarding Trump's anticipated next move on Iran. In recent closed-door sessions, Israeli military and intelligence officials reportedly presented Netanyahu with increasingly hawkish positions toward Tehran.

The Israeli army is said to regard the current state of Iran's degraded military capabilities as an "operational opportunity" to resume strikes and "finish the mission," while Mossad analysts believe a renewed conflict could hasten the Iranian regime's collapse. Officials were nonetheless careful to avoid projecting panic or appearing to push Washington toward escalation, the report said.

Earlier this week, Trump voiced cautious optimism over the diplomatic track, describing talks with Iran as "very good" and predicting the war would "be over quickly." He added that Washington anticipated receiving Tehran's response "very soon" to a US proposal designed to end the conflict.

Regional tensions have remained acute since US and Israeli strikes on Iran prompted retaliatory attacks against Israel and American Gulf allies, along with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took hold on April 8, though talks in Islamabad failed to yield a permanent accord. Trump subsequently extended the truce without setting a deadline, and Washington has maintained a naval blockade on Iranian maritime traffic in the strait since April 13.
