India To Contribute 17% Of Global Growth In 2026, Says Jaishankar
Addressing representatives from various sections of Surinamese society during his visit to Suriname, Jaishankar cited International Monetary Fund projections that position India as the largest contributor to global real GDP growth this year, reports ANI.
India Leads Global Growth Contribution
According to IMF estimates, India is expected to contribute 17 percent of global growth, ahead of the United States at 9.9 percent. Other major contributors include Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Brazil and Germany.
Jaishankar said India's growth trajectory is not only strengthening its domestic economy but also helping de-risk the global economy by creating new opportunities for international partners.
“As we grow, it's not just about us. We help to de-risk the international economy and create more possibilities for other countries,” he said.
Trade Expansion Remains A Priority
He added that India is expanding market access and actively negotiating free trade agreements to strengthen global economic partnerships.
The International Monetary Fund recently revised India's growth forecast for 2025 upward by 0.7 percentage points to 7.3 percent, citing strong economic momentum in the fourth quarter of FY26.
For 2026-27, the IMF has projected India's growth at 6.4 percent, while describing the country as a key driver of growth among emerging and developing economies.
Globally, the IMF expects economic growth to remain stable at 3.3 percent in 2026, supported by easing trade tensions, improved financial conditions and increased investment in technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Jaishankar, who arrived in Suriname on Wednesday, is currently on a three-country tour of the Caribbean from May 2 to May 10.
