Iranian Oil Tanker Slips Past US Maritime Blockade

(MENAFN) According to reports, a large oil tanker linked to National Iranian Tanker Company has reportedly evaded US maritime interception efforts while transporting a significant crude oil shipment valued at approximately $220 million.

As stated by reports, maritime tracking data cited by TankerTrackers on social media platform X indicates that the vessel was carrying more than 1.9 million barrels of crude oil during its voyage toward markets in East Asia.

According to reports, the tanker—identified as “HUGE” (9357183)—was last observed near Sri Lanka more than a week ago before continuing its movement through the Lombok Strait in Indonesia, heading toward the Riau Archipelago.

Reports indicate that the ship has not broadcast Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals since March 20, when it reportedly departed the Strait of Malacca en route from Iran, suggesting it had gone “dark” during part of its journey.

As stated by reports, the vessel’s movement comes amid ongoing US efforts to restrict Iranian oil exports through maritime enforcement measures. Despite these restrictions, tracking data suggests the tanker successfully continued its route toward Asian waters without interception.

According to reports, maritime monitoring analysts note that such voyages highlight continued challenges in enforcing blockades on shipping routes across the region, particularly in busy and complex sea lanes.
