Germany Blasts Trump Over Iran Strategy

(MENAFN) Germany's Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil launched a sharp rebuke against US President Donald Trump on Friday, challenging his handling of the Iran war and demanding an immediate push for peace, as a deepening transatlantic rift entered its fourth consecutive day.

Speaking at a Labor Day gathering in the western town of Bergkamen, Klingbeil dismissed Trump's apparent confidence in a swift resolution to the conflict. "I think he really believed this would be a matter of two or three days, and then everything would be fine. He now bears the responsibility for ensuring that this war in Iran ends quickly," he said.

The vice chancellor also stepped forward to shield Chancellor Friedrich Merz from a barrage of American criticism, delivering a blunt message directly to Washington. "We really don't need any advice from Donald Trump. He should take a look at the mess he's created. He should ensure that serious peace talks are now held in Iran.

"And I say this especially in light of the past few days, when he has been making comments about the German federal government and the chancellor," Klingbeil added.

The remarks follow Trump's incendiary claim on Tuesday that Merz was comfortable with the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran — an accusation that further corroded relations between the two allied nations. Posting on Truth Social, Trump declared that Merz "doesn't know what he's talking about," warning that a nuclear Tehran would hold the world "hostage."
