US Clears Possible Military Weapons Sale to Israel

(MENAFN) The United States Department of State has approved the possible sale of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) and related equipment to Israel, according to a statement released Friday.

The deal is estimated at $992.4 million, the department said, adding that the package is intended to enhance Israel’s military capabilities.

“The proposed sale will improve Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats, strengthen its homeland defense, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats. Israel will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces,” the statement said.

The main contractor for the deal is expected to be BAE Systems, based in the US state of New Hampshire.

The approval comes amid continued international controversy over US military support for Israel during its war in the Gaza Strip, where reports say tens of thousands have been killed since October 2023, most of them women and children.

A ceasefire was reached in October 2025, but reports indicate that violations have continued intermittently.

The US government has faced growing domestic political pressure, with some lawmakers calling for restrictions on arms transfers to Israel and accusing Washington of complicity in the conduct of the war in Gaza, according to reports.
