US Defense Department Expands AI Use in Classified Military Systems

(MENAFN) The US Defense Department announced Friday that it has signed agreements with several leading technology companies to deploy advanced artificial intelligence tools across highly sensitive classified military networks, according to reports.

The partnerships reportedly include SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services, alongside other firms involved in the initiative.

In its statement, the department said the effort is intended to speed up the military’s transition toward deeper reliance on AI systems, describing it as a shift toward an “AI-first fighting force.”

Officials said the goal is to enhance decision-making capabilities across multiple operational domains.

"These agreements accelerate the transformation toward establishing the United States military as an AI-first fighting force and will strengthen our warfighters’ ability to maintain decision superiority across all domains of warfare," the department said.

The Pentagon also emphasized that it aims to avoid dependence on a single provider, stating it will continue developing systems designed to prevent “vendor lock” and maintain long-term operational flexibility.

It added that integrating multiple AI systems from different providers would give military personnel broader technological options, describing it as a way to improve responsiveness and resilience in addressing potential threats, as stated by reports.
