Bihar: Panic At Simri Bakhtiyarpur Railway Station As Smoke Erupts From Jansadharan Express

(MENAFN- IANS) ​Patna, May 1 (IANS) A tense situation unfolded on Friday evening at Simri Bakhtiyarpur Railway Station when smoke suddenly began billowing from the power car of train No. 14603 (Up) Jansadharan Express, which was en route from Saharsa to Amritsar.​

The incident triggered panic among passengers, leading to a brief period of chaos.​

According to eyewitnesses, thick smoke rose from beneath the power car due to the brakes binding. ​

Alarmed by the situation, passengers immediately pulled the emergency chain, bringing the train to a halt near an overbridge.​

As the train stopped, panic spread rapidly. Several passengers rushed to get off the train as a precaution, while others stayed back, trying to understand the situation.​

The train's driver and guard responded promptly, while onboard railway staff used fire extinguishers in an attempt to control the smoke.​

However, the smoke continued for some time, making the situation appear serious.​

Railway authorities quickly alerted the local fire department.​

A team from the fire brigade reached the spot and, in coordination with railway personnel, launched an operation to contain the smoke.​

After sustained efforts, the situation was brought under control, averting what could have turned into a major accident.​

Following the incident, the train was moved cautiously to Platform No. 1 at Simri Bakhtiyarpur Railway Station. After a brief halt, it was cleared to resume its journey.​

The Jansadharan Express remained delayed for approximately 25 minutes due to the incident.​

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. However, the sudden development left passengers shaken.​

Railway authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the smoke from the power car.​

Preliminary indications point toward a technical issue such as brake binding, but officials are examining all possibilities.​

Jansadharan Express is one of the major trains connecting Bihar with North Indian states like Punjab and Haryana.
