Hospitals To Be Upgraded Across KP As CM Announces Large-Scale Reforms
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced the upgradation of hospitals and large-scale new recruitments, stating that the provincial government is taking practical steps to modernize the healthcare system while ensuring merit and transparency.
He said the revamping of District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals is progressing rapidly, while in the second phase, Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) will also be upgraded. This, he added, will reduce pressure on major hospitals and significantly decrease referral cases.
According to the Chief Minister, the provincial government is hiring 2,400 doctors, including 250 dental surgeons, while 27 dental specialists have already been appointed. He also announced that stipends for house officers will be increased in the upcoming budget.

He further stated that over the past 13 years, the health sector budget has increased from Rs 3 billion to Rs 275 billion, reflecting significant expansion and improvement in the sector.
Referring to the Kach Hospital project, the Chief Minister said it has faced delays due to lack of federal cooperation and non-provision of funds. However, the provincial government has informed the federal authorities, and if funds are not provided, the project will be completed through bridge financing.
He said people have suffered due to closed-door policies and emphasized that transparent decision-making is essential.
On this occasion, he also referred to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, stating that he is being unjustly imprisoned and deserves proper medical treatment under the supervision of qualified doctors, but obstacles are being created in this regard.
He made these remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a three-day Second International Conference 2026 organized by the Khyber College of Dentistry in Peshawar.
