Report Says Lebanon War Brings High Political Cost for Israel
(MENAFN) A report in Israeli media has suggested that the ongoing conflict in Lebanon imposes significant political costs on Israel, while also arguing that there is no clear military solution to stopping Hezbollah’s missile capabilities in the north, according to a senior official cited in the coverage.
The official said that despite criticism surrounding a recently announced ceasefire with Hezbollah, ending active hostilities remains, in their view, the only practical way to halt rocket and missile fire targeting northern Israeli areas.
The report also stated that the Israeli cabinet has not formally directed the military to fully eliminate Hezbollah’s military strength. It noted that while weakening the group remains a broader strategic goal, it has not been defined as something achievable through military action alone.
According to the same official, targeted killings and other military operations may reduce Hezbollah’s capabilities, but would not be sufficient to completely stop its missile and rocket attacks.
They added that achieving such an outcome through force alone would require a much larger and more intensive military campaign, including significantly increased manpower—something they described as currently unrealistic due to the Israeli army being stretched across multiple fronts and repeatedly relying on reserve mobilization.
The report further noted that the immediate threat of a ground incursion into northern Israeli towns has been reduced, raising questions about the potential gains of resuming full-scale offensive operations.
