Israeli Strikes in Lebanon Leave Over 2,490 Dead
(MENAFN) Lebanon reported Saturday that five people were killed and six others wounded over the preceding 24 hours, pushing the cumulative death toll from Israeli strikes to 2,496 since March 2, with 7,725 people injured.
The figures were released in an official report by the Lebanese Cabinet's Disaster Risk Management Unit, as cited by the National News Agency (NNA).
Prior to Saturday's update, the confirmed toll stood at 2,491 dead and 7,719 wounded, with displacement figures exceeding one million people. The unit offered no additional breakdown of the methodology used to compile the updated statistics.
Field sources and local media indicate that recovery operations are still ongoing, with authorities continuing to retrieve bodies of victims killed before the ceasefire took effect. The rise in injury figures, sources say, reflects data revisions and newly registered cases reported in recent days.
The update arrives as Israel continues to breach a temporary ceasefire agreement in Lebanon that came into force on April 17. The truce was originally announced by US President Donald Trump and was subsequently extended by an additional three weeks on Thursday.
Despite the fragile halt in hostilities, Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire since March 2, inflicting casualties and extensive destruction. Hezbollah, in turn, has continued to strike Israeli military positions across southern Lebanon as well as communities inside Israel.
