Medvedev Suggests Tariffs on EU Trade in Response to Estonia’s Call

(MENAFN) Russia’s Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has proposed introducing tariffs on Russian exports to the European Union, including fertilizers, in response to calls from European officials to tax Russian imports and use the revenue for Ukraine’s reconstruction, according to reports.

Medvedev, who previously served as Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012, said Moscow should “respond in kind” to the proposal made by Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal.

“Let their food prices go up, while we get more missiles, drones, and heavy guided bombs for the special military operation!” he wrote on the Russian social media platform Max.

His remarks came shortly after the European Union approved its 20th sanctions package against Russia on Thursday. The measures target sectors including energy, finance, trade, and defense, alongside efforts to counter sanctions evasion, according to reports from EU institutions.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also said the bloc is preparing an additional 21st sanctions package, indicating continued pressure on Moscow and sustained support for Ukraine, as stated by reports.
