Palestinian Man Fatally Shot by Israeli Settlers in West Bank
(MENAFN) A 25-year-old Palestinian man was fatally shot by Israeli settlers Wednesday during an assault on a village east of Ramallah in the central West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed.
In an official press statement, the ministry identified the victim as Awda Atef Awawdeh, who died after settlers opened fire during an attack on the village of Deir Dibwan, located east of Ramallah.
Palestinian security sources told media that a group of Israeli settlers, operating under the protection of Israeli army forces, stormed the village and discharged weapons, fatally wounding Awawdeh. Israeli forces subsequently arrested 40 villagers during the raid, the sources added.
Wednesday's killing comes just one day after two Palestinians lost their lives to settler violence in the nearby village of Al-Mughayyir, also near Ramallah. The victims were identified as 14-year-old Aws al-Naasan and 32-year-old Jihad Abu Naim.
The back-to-back incidents are part of a deeply alarming pattern. According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Israeli forces and settlers carried out a combined 1,819 attacks throughout March alone — 1,322 attributed to the army and 497 to settlers.
Israel seized control of the West Bank following the 1967 war and has since established settlements across the territory, which the international community regards as illegal under international law. Today, more than half a million Israeli settlers reside in the West Bank alongside approximately 3.4 million Palestinians, in a landscape where tensions routinely erupt into deadly violence.
