Progressive Bulgaria Maintains Lead as Parliamentary Count Nears Completion
(MENAFN) According to reports, the Progressive Bulgaria coalition led by former President Rumen Radev is maintaining a strong lead in Bulgaria’s early parliamentary election results as vote counting continues nationwide.
Preliminary figures released by the Central Election Commission show that with a small portion of ballots processed, Progressive Bulgaria is ahead with approximately 43.7% of the vote, according to local media coverage. The coalition appears to be significantly ahead of its competitors at this early stage of counting.
In second place, the We Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria alliance is reported to have secured around 15%, followed by the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria–Union of Democratic Forces coalition with just over 12%.
Other parties are trailing further behind, including Revival with under 5% support and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms close to the parliamentary threshold required for representation.
A number of political parties and alliances are participating in the election, competing for seats in a 240-member parliament. Under Bulgaria’s electoral system, a majority of at least 121 seats is needed to form a government.
Separate projections based on parallel vote counting suggest that Progressive Bulgaria could secure a parliamentary majority if current trends continue, with estimates placing it well above the threshold required for governance.
Voter turnout was reported at just over one-third of eligible voters by mid-afternoon, with millions of citizens registered to participate in the election. Final results are expected once the full count is completed and officially certified by electoral authorities.
