Its core can be opened and closed like a“clamp,” allowing it to be directly attached around an existing conductor without disconnecting the circuit. This enables non-invasive installation.

Unlike traditional current transformers (CTs) that require conductors to be threaded through a solid core (necessitating power shutdown and cable disassembly), split-core CTs can be clamped onto live cables without interrupting service. How It Works?

Split-core CTs operate on the principle of electromagnetic induction:

  • When a current-carrying conductor passes through the core (or is placed within its opening), the alternating magnetic field generated around the conductor induces magnetic flux in the core.
