Indian Actress Trisha Krishnan Slams Misogynistic Comments Made By Actor
"I was informed by the organisers of a recent event that my name and picture were included at the last minute at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant," Trisha, rumoured to be in a relationship with actor-politician Vijay, wrote on social media.
Recommended For YouWithout mentioning anyone directly, she added: "A microphone doesn't make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder. Crude words without knowledge say more about the speaker than the person they're aimed at."
Trisha's comments come after videos of Parthiban taking a jibe at her at a public event went popular online. In one such video, he said it's best that she stays at home as her public appearances with Vijay can cause him problems. He made a pun with the character Kundavai Pirattiyar-which Krishnan portrayed in Mani Ratnam's magnum epic dramas Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2-and "kundhu", the Tamil slang for "sit", to make his point.
However, Parthiban expressed regret. In a rather cryptic post in Tamil, he wrote that "since whatever happened was a mistake, there is no way other than to express regret".
What Parthiban's comments imply
Parthiban's comments can be seen as a reference to Vijay's divorce battle with his wife of more than two and half decades, Sangeetha Sornalingam. She has moved court, seeking an order to continue living at the couple's matrimonial home near the south Indian metropolis of Chennai and the dissolution of their marriage. Vijay and Sangeetha have two kids: a son, Jason Sanjay, 25, and daughter Divya Saasha, 20.
Sangeetha has also sought permanent alimony, The Indian Express reported citing legal documents it reviewed, as previous attempts to save the marital dispute failed. In her divorce petition, according to the newspaper, she discovered Vijay was in an "adulterous relationship with an actress since 2021", and that all attempts at reconciliation since then have failed.
The developments come at a time when Vijay's political party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, is making its debut in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu in the upcoming elections to its legislative assembly. Vijay, considered one of Tamil cinema's most bankable stars, had also announced that he will quit acting. Touted to be his last movie, the political action drama Jana Nayagan has been mired in delays with India's film certification board and is yet to get a theatrical release date.
Amid all of this, Vijay and Trisha attended the wedding reception of film producer Kalpathi S Suresh and Meenakshi Suresh's son in Chennai on March 5. The duo arrived at the venue together in colour-coordinated outfits and later posed with the newlyweds.
Previous instances
Parthiban isn't the first to make comments at Trisha. Last month, a politician said that Vijay "come out of Trisha's house", if he is to make a difference in the south Indian state's political landscape.
“Poor man, he is inexperienced," Nainar Nagendran, the Tamil Nadu unit president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said in Chennai. "Come out of your house... Come out of Trisha's house first, (only) then (can) something can happen." Following public resentment, Nagendran issued a public apology.
