Türkiye Updates Regional Airspace Operations
(MENAFN) Following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced Sunday that varying airspace closures and restrictions have been implemented over Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
A post on the ministry’s official NSosyal account stated that air traffic services are not being provided over Afghanistan, while regulations remain in effect over the United Arab Emirates (Emirates FIR).
Airport operations in the region have been impacted: Ben Gurion Airport in Israel is functioning at limited capacity, whereas Haifa, Ramon, Rosh Pina, and Herzliya airports remain closed. In Syria, operational conditions at Damascus and Aleppo international airports are subject to updates via NOTAMs.
Most regional flights are currently routed through a corridor linking Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye, and Southern Cyprus, with some traffic diverted via northern Azerbaijan toward Türkiye and Europe. This has caused congestion in Turkish airspace, though authorities confirmed that air traffic services are continuing safely and without disruption.
On Saturday, 15 flights were diverted due to airspace restrictions, nine of which landed at Istanbul Airport. At Tehran Airport, two Turkish-operated aircraft from Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines remained grounded.
The ministry noted that Turkish carriers are adjusting flight paths according to the restrictions, and authorities are continuously monitoring the region to coordinate measures and respond to any changes in airspace or airport operations.
