Tinashe's research is situated within the field of human geography, with Sub-Saharan Africa as its geographical focus. His interests span a broad range of socio-spatial issues, including governance, livelihood strategies among the poor, food security, and food systems. He holds a PhD in Urban Geography, and was a post-doctoral researcher at the African Centre for Cities, University of Cape Town. He is currently an honorary researcher in the Department of Geography, Environmental Studies and Tourism at the University of the Western Cape.
