UK PM, NATO’s Rutte discuss Arctic security

According to a statement from the UK premier’s office, the discussion included Rutte’s meetings at the World Economic Forum in Davos and the progress made by NATO allies on Arctic security in recent days. The conversation also comes amid ongoing international attention on Greenland, a mineral-rich territory that has drawn interest from the United States. Former US President Donald Trump previously sought to acquire Greenland, citing national security concerns and the growing influence of Russia and China in the Arctic. His plan faced opposition from European countries, against whom he had threatened tariffs.
Following a meeting with Rutte on the sidelines of the Davos forum, Trump later announced that a framework for a future deal involving Greenland and the broader Arctic region had been established, while stepping back from the previously threatened tariffs.
