Syrian Army says YPG/SDF launched suicide drone attacks on its positions

(MENAFN) The Syrian Army stated on Sunday that the YPG/SDF launched more than 25 suicide drone attacks on its positions in the Aleppo countryside, violating a recently extended ceasefire, according to reports.

The army’s Operations Command said that SDF forces targeted Syrian Army deployment points around the Ayn al-Arab area (Kobani) using over 25 FPV (first-person view) explosive drones, destroying four army vehicles in the process. The M4 highway and surrounding villages were also targeted, resulting in injuries to several civilians.

“The Syrian Army is considering its operational choices in response to the targeting of civilians and its deployment positions and will take the necessary measures,” the statement said, noting that the army is assessing the situation and reviewing possible responses.

The Defense Ministry’s Media and Communications Department reported that most of the drones were aimed at civilian homes and roads in Sarrin, south of Ayn al-Arab, causing multiple injuries. Syrian forces were able to intercept and shoot down several of the drones before they could hit residential areas east of Aleppo.

In a separate incident, SDF forces reportedly surrounded homes near al-Shuyoukh village to detain certain family members, leading to clashes with residents and additional civilian injuries.

These attacks occurred just a day after the Syrian government extended a ceasefire with the SDF by 15 days. Previously, authorities had noted that a four-day truce had ended and were evaluating next steps following its expiration.
