Syria Launches Oil Extraction from Reclaimed Fields

(MENAFN) Syria's government-controlled petroleum authority announced Saturday that extraction operations have commenced at oil installations recently reclaimed from Kurdish-led forces in the country's northeast.

Safwan Sheikh Ahmad, director of institutional communications at the state-run Syrian Petroleum Company, confirmed to a Syrian news agency that technical crews initiated raw gas pumping from Hasakah province's Jibsa fields.

The petroleum company has mobilized efforts to extract crude from facilities previously under SDF control, Sheikh Ahmad stated, with shipments now being directed toward the Homs refinery in Syria's central region and the coastal Baniyas refinery "under an integrated plan to return the fields to service."

Sheikh Ahmad indicated current rehabilitation efforts could yield approximately 100,000 barrels daily within a four-month timeframe, bolstering both energy production and economic stability nationwide.

The news agency confirmed the company initiated raw gas transmission from Jibsa fields to the Furqlus gas plant at 35 bar pressure to fuel electricity generation. Transport volume reaches roughly 1.2 million cubic meters daily through the Kona and Markada stations, according to the agency's reporting.

These developments follow Syrian military forces recovering petroleum installations across Raqqa and Deir Ezzor provinces, subsequently transferred to the Syrian Petroleum Company for restoration and operational restart.

Production resumption stems from a January 18 ceasefire accord between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the SDF, mandating integration of militia members into governmental structures.

The accord requires civilian administrative bodies to merge with state apparatus, SDF personnel to join the Defense Ministry "individually," and government authority to be restored over border crossings plus oil and gas assets. Terms additionally mandate immediate administrative and military transfer of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa to Damascus.

The agreement materialized following military campaigns across eastern and northeastern territories where government forces regained substantial areas amid repeated SDF breaches of prior arrangements.
