Conclusion of three-day Russia, Ukraine, US talks
(MENAFN) According to reports, two days of trilateral discussions between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States wrapped up in Abu Dhabi, with no immediate continuation of the talks expected. An anonymous source described the outcome as yielding “some results.”
Footage shared by Russian media showed the delegation returning to their hotel after Saturday’s session. Reports indicate that a follow-up round could take place in the United Arab Emirates as soon as next week, with a U.S. official reportedly confirming that the next meeting is scheduled for February 1. Ukrainian officials described the negotiations as “positive.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that another meeting could happen in the UAE, noting that discussions focused on “possible parameters to end the conflict” and welcomed “the recognition of the need for American monitoring and oversight” to help resolve hostilities.
This marked the first-ever trilateral format meeting since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. No immediate statements were issued by the participants after the talks concluded.
The Russian delegation was led by presidential aide Yury Ushakov and Admiral Igor Kostyukov, head of military intelligence. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov had previously stated that the team would concentrate on security issues.
Reports indicate that territorial disputes remain the primary obstacle to a peace agreement. Russia continues to demand that Ukraine withdraw its forces from regions incorporated into Russia and recognize the new borders, while Ukraine has consistently rejected any such concessions.
