Two women get attacked by YPG/SDF supporters in London

(MENAFN) Two women were reportedly attacked on Saturday by supporters of the YPG/SDF during a demonstration in central London, according to witness accounts.

The protest began in Trafalgar Square, where a pro-YPG/SDF group had gathered, before marching toward Downing Street. Outside the prime minister’s office, several demonstrators verbally and physically assaulted the two women who happened to be passing through. Police intervened to stop the attack.

The demonstration occurred as Syrian army forces launched operations in northeastern Syria, following what officials said was the SDF’s failure to comply with a ceasefire agreement. Under the terms of that deal, the SDF was required to withdraw its forces east of the Euphrates River and transfer administrative and security control of the Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces to the Syrian government.

The agreement also calls for all border crossings and energy resources to be placed under central government authority, and for SDF personnel to be individually integrated into Syria’s defense and interior ministries after a vetting process. Earlier this week, Syria’s Defense Ministry announced a four-day ceasefire with the SDF “in line with the understandings announced by the Syrian state” and “out of keenness to ensure the success of national efforts.”

The SDF is largely dominated by the YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK terror group. The PKK has been banned in the UK since March 2001 under the Terrorism Act 2000.
