Syria prolongs truce with YPG/SDF for two more weeks
(MENAFN) Syria announced on Friday that it is extending its ceasefire with the YPG/SDF by 15 days, according to statements from the country’s Defense Ministry.
The ministry said the renewed truce will be enforced across all operational sectors of the Syrian Army and is set to take effect at 11 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2026.
Officials said the extension is intended to facilitate a US-led operation to evacuate detainees from the ISIS (Daesh) terror group, who are currently held in SDF-managed prisons, and transfer them to Iraq.
The announcement came just hours after the Syrian government noted that a previous four-day truce with the SDF had expired and said authorities were evaluating their next steps following the conclusion of that agreement.
