Nobel Committee Says Machado Can’t Give Prize to Trump

(MENAFN) The institution responsible for the Nobel Peace Prize has affirmed that the accolade cannot be annulled or passed on to another individual, dismissing any chance of it being redirected to US President Donald Trump.

This clarification followed remarks from the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who told a news agency earlier in the week that “the Venezuelan people, because this is a prize of the Venezuelan people, certainly want to give it to him [Trump] and share it with him.”

President Trump has been persistently advocating to obtain the honor since assuming office a year ago, yet the committee chose to bestow it upon Machado during a formal event in Oslo, Norway, last December.

An announcement released on the Nobel Prize office’s website on Friday emphasized that the distinction “can neither be revoked, shared, nor transferred to others. Once the announcement has been made, the decision stands for all time.”

Although the declaration did not explicitly reference Trump or Machado, it acknowledged that the organizers “receive a number of requests for comments regarding the permanence of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate’s status.”

The statement concluded by noting, “As a matter of principle, the Norwegian Nobel Committee will not comment upon what the Peace Prize Laureates may say and do after they have been awarded the prize.”
