Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Friday called on the United States to take action in response to Russia's use of a nuclear-capable intermediate-range missile in new attacks on Ukraine.

In a press statement, the Ukrainian president said that Russia bombed his country on Thursday night/Friday morning using 242 drones, 22 cruise missiles, and 13 ballistic missiles, including the Oreshk missile, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

He confirmed that civilian infrastructure and energy facilities in Kyiv were damaged in the bombing, and that a number of people were killed, indicating an urgent need for a clear response from the world.

Russia stated that it used the Oreshk missile in attacks on western Ukraine in retaliation for an alleged Ukrainian attack on one of Russian President Vladimir Putin's residences late last year.

This is the second time that Russia has bombed its neighbor Ukraine with the Oreshk missile, having bombed Dnipro in November 2024.
