EU: Russia's Use Of Oreshnik Missile Warning To Europe, US

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Jan 9 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said on Friday that Russia's reported strike against Ukraine using a new Oreshnik ballistic missile was intended to send a message to Europe and the United States.
In a post on X, Kallas said that "Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want peace, and Russia's response to diplomacy is more missiles and destruction", adding that "this deadly pattern of recurring major Russian strikes will continue unless we help Ukraine break it".
She stressed that the reported use of the Oreshnik missile constitutes "a clear escalation against Ukraine" and comes "as a warning directed at Europe and the United States".
The EU official underscored that EU member states "must dig deeper into their air-defence stocks and deliver now" while at the same time calling for "further raising the cost of this war for Moscow, including through tougher sanctions". (end)
