Macau Visitor Arrivals Reach Record 40.06 M In 2025
Dhaka: Macau recorded a record 40.06 million visitor arrivals in 2025, a 1.7pc increase on 2019's pre-COVID level, according to the Public Security Police (PSP).
The figure exceeded the Macau Government Tourism Office's forecast of 39 million and marked a 14.7% year-on-year rise, signaling a full recovery from the pandemic.
Domestic travelers from mainland China dominated arrivals, accounting for 72.4pc, followed by Hong Kong residents at 18.2pc, foreign nationals 6.9pc, and Taiwanese visitors 2.5pc.
The PSP said the data will be adjusted later this month by Macau's Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).
Cross-border entries and exits also set a new record at 235 million, up 9.8% year-on-year, surpassing the pre-pandemic benchmark of 190 million.
The most-used checkpoint was Barrier Gate, handling 124 million entries and exits. The busiest single day was 1 January 2026, with 866,000 movements, surpassing a previous record of 837,000 on 2 May 2025. Zhuhai border ports also saw heavy traffic over China's New Year holiday, processing 2.4 million passengers.
Cheung Kin Chung, president of the Macau Hoteliers and Innkeepers Association, said the city is entering 2026“with confidence,” predicting visitor numbers could rise up to 8pc, with hotel occupancy rates and room prices expected to grow steadily, supported by Macau's cultural and tourism initiatives.
