Zelenskyy Removes Border Head in Major Reform

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy removed State Border Guard Service commander Serhii Deineko from his post Sunday through an official presidential decree.

The leadership change follows Zelenskyy's Friday evening declaration that Ukraine would implement sweeping internal restructuring designed to strengthen national resilience.

The president confirmed a successor will be named shortly, pending candidate recommendations from Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

Zelenskyy noted that Deineko, who commanded the border service for more than six years, will "continue his work within the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs."

A concurrent presidential decree designated first deputy border service chief Valerii Vavryniuk as interim commander of the agency, according to separate documentation.

The abrupt personnel shift represents one of the most significant organizational changes within Ukraine's security apparatus as the nation continues navigating ongoing challenges. The move signals Zelenskyy's commitment to institutional reform amid evolving security priorities.
