Turkish Football Clubs Unite in Support of Palestine
(MENAFN) Several Turkish football clubs have expressed solidarity with a rally planned in Istanbul on Thursday to denounce the ongoing violence in Palestine, with numerous club leaders urging their supporters to attend.
Galatasaray Chair Dursun Ozbek described the situation in Gaza as a “test of conscience for humanity.” In a video message posted on the U.S. social platform X, he declared: “We will not get used to this silence. Standing shoulder to shoulder against oppression, we come together on the same side for humanity. On the morning of Jan. 1, we will be at Galata Bridge to be the voice of the oppressed.”
Trabzonspor Chairman Ertugrul Dogan also encouraged fans to join, emphasizing that the gathering organized by the National Will Platform represents “a stance, not just a march.” He added: “They said ceasefire, but mornings in Gaza still begin with bombs. The Trabzonspor community stands with the oppressed against oppression.”
Besiktas Chair Serdar Adali echoed these sentiments in his own video message, stating that “the bloodshed and tears in Palestine have not stopped,” and called for unity against the violence.
Other Turkish Super Lig clubs—including Fenerbahce, Basaksehir, Konyaspor, Kayserispor, and Gaziantep FK—released statements on social media voicing their support for the rally and inviting the public to participate.
The demonstration is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. local time (0530 GMT) on Thursday at Istanbul’s Galata Bridge.
