Dialogue Not War: Protesters In Landi Kotal Call For Peaceful Pak-Afghan Talks
A large protest rally was held at Bacha Khan Chowk in Landi Kotal against the prolonged closure of the Pak-Afghan Torkham border. Political parties, the trader community, labor unions, and tribal elders participated in large numbers.
The protesters demanded the immediate reopening of the Torkham border, stating that the closure has left thousands of families unemployed and facing severe economic hardships. Speakers said that the Torkham border is a vital trade hub for tribal areas and a major source of livelihood.
The gathering expressed the resolve that tribal people are patriotic Pakistanis and seek peaceful, mutually respectful relations with neighboring Afghanistan. Participants emphasized that problems should be resolved through serious dialogue rather than war, and demanded the inclusion of tribal elders in Pak-Afghan negotiations.
At the conclusion of the protest, both governments were urged to reopen the Torkham border immediately in the public's economic interest.
It is worth noting that for the past 85 days, the Pak-Afghan Torkham border, along with other borders adjoining Afghanistan, has remained closed.
