PM Calls For Renewed Energy And Hope As Sri Lanka Welcomes 2026

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has urged Sri Lankans to enter the New Year with renewed energy, hope, and determination, reflecting on the progress made in 2025 and the challenges the nation must overcome in the year ahead.

In her New Year message, the Prime Minister said 2025 marked a period of decisive and progressive change under a people-oriented government. She noted that the emergence of a new political culture helped strengthen transparency in state governance and laid the groundwork for a more efficient and corruption-free public service.

The Prime Minister highlighted progress achieved in several key areas during the past year, including improved economic stability, a more positive and optimistic international perception of Sri Lanka, the establishment of transparent governance systems, and the strengthening of legislative sovereignty.

However, she acknowledged that the country faced a severe and unfortunate disaster toward the end of 2025, describing it as a deeply challenging time for the nation. She said the solidarity, compassion, and collective spirit displayed by Sri Lankans during this period earned admiration from around the world.

As Sri Lanka enters 2026, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to overcoming these challenges, healing from the disaster, and restoring the lives and livelihoods that were affected.

Outlining priorities for the year ahead, she referred to plans for sustainable and qualitative reforms in the education sector, the digitalisation of all areas of the public service, the creation of an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, artists, and innovators to compete globally, and the building of a compassionate and environmentally friendly society free from drugs and harmful substances.

The Prime Minister stressed that the responsibility of rebuilding the nation rests with all citizens, together with the government, and called for unity beyond ethnic, religious, and political differences under a shared Sri Lankan identity.

Calling on citizens to transform the challenges of the past year into sources of strength, she invited the nation to step into 2026 with renewed energy, hope, and resolve. She concluded by wishing all Sri Lankans a victorious New Year filled with peace, happiness, and prosperity.
