Private jet crash at Maine airport leaves eight people dead
(MENAFN) A privately operated jet carrying eight people was involved in a crash late Sunday at Bangor International Airport in the northeastern US state of Maine, according to reports.
As stated by authorities, the aircraft went down during takeoff at approximately 7:45 p.m. local time on Jan. 25. "A Bombardier Challenger 600 crashed as it was taking off from Bangor International Airport in Maine around 7:45 p.m. local time on Sunday, Jan. 25. Eight people were on board. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) will investigate," an official statement said on a US-based social media platform.
Airport officials had earlier issued a public warning, saying, “Please avoid the airport. The runway is closed at this time,” in a message shared online.
According to the same statement, the crash is being investigated and emergency crews were immediately dispatched to the scene. There has been no confirmation so far regarding the condition or injuries of those on board.
Reports based on air traffic control communications indicated that the pilot had received clearance to depart from Runway 33 before operations were abruptly halted. Controllers later reported that a passenger aircraft had overturned, prompting the airport to suspend activity and allow emergency vehicles to enter the area.
The jet involved in the incident is reportedly registered to a company based in Houston.
