South Korea confirms new cases of “highly pathogenic” bird flu
(MENAFN) South Korea has identified two new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza at poultry farms, bringing the total number of infections this season to 26, according to reports.
The latest outbreaks were detected at a duck farm in North Chungcheong province and a chicken farm in Jeolla province. Authorities have imposed strict access controls on the affected sites, begun culling poultry, and launched investigations into the spread of the virus. Operations at related facilities and transport of farming vehicles in the regions have been temporarily suspended.
H5N1 avian influenza primarily affects birds but can occasionally infect humans, causing symptoms such as fever, coughing, nasal discharge, and in severe cases, respiratory complications.
