US, Ukraine, Germany continue ceasefire talks in Berlin
(MENAFN) Foreign policy advisers from the United States, Ukraine, Germany, and other nations are scheduled to continue discussions in Berlin on Sunday regarding a potential ceasefire in Ukraine, according to reports citing government sources.
The US confirmed that special envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to the German capital for the talks.
The precise timing and venue of Sunday’s meetings were initially undisclosed, and it remains unclear which Ukrainian officials will take part.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to arrive in Berlin on Monday. German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius announced that Chancellor Friedrich Merz will first meet with Zelenskyy for talks on German-Ukrainian economic cooperation. This will be followed by a broader meeting at the chancellery involving European leaders, EU and NATO representatives, and Zelenskyy. Whether US representatives will join this session on Monday evening has not yet been confirmed.
Prior to this, Witkoff and Jared Kushner, senior adviser and son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, spent several days in Florida consulting with Ukrainian officials. Kyiv’s delegation included former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Chief of Staff Andrii Hnatow. Before their US meetings, Witkoff and Kushner held extensive talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
