Al Khor And Al Thakhira Joins UNESCO Learning Cities Network

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality announced Friday that 'Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality' has joined the UNESCO Learning Cities Network, thus completing the membership of all Qatari municipalities in this global network. The step is considered a national achievement that enhances the country's position on the map of lifelong learning and highlights its leadership in the fields of human and sustainable development.

In a statement, the Ministry affirmed that this joining is the culmination of Qatar's efforts to establish the concept of a learning society and promote the principles of sustainability through initiatives that support innovation, community participation, and improving the quality of life.

The Ministry explained that this achievement is the result of cooperation between the Ministry, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and other relevant national institutions, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030's commitment to establishing a lifelong learning methodology.

The statement noted that Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality's membership in the Learning Cities Network was granted after they met UNESCO's established criteria by adopting a comprehensive methodology for disseminating sustainable development concepts and activating local community participation in development and educational programs. This reflects the municipality's commitment to supporting human development capable of building a productive and participatory knowledge society.

It further explained that the completion of membership for all Qatari municipalities in the Learning Cities Network underscores the commitment to building an inclusive educational environment that provides lifelong learning opportunities for all members of society. It also strengthens international partnerships that support human development and solidifies Qatar's position as a leading country in developing sustainable cities and learning communities.

The Learning Cities Network is a global platform that includes leading cities working to develop innovative educational and community programs.
