Mauritius To Launch Electronic Travel Authorization System
Dhaka: Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam has underscored tourism's central role in the island nation's economy and announced plans for a new digital recognition system and electronic travel authorisation platform to streamline arrival procedures for visitors and Mauritians.
Speaking at a Golden Jubilee event of Constance Hotels & Resorts, Ramgoolam called tourism one of the country's fastest job creators and a key driver for economic rebalancing.
He urged stronger public–private cooperation to strengthen the sector amid intensifying global competition.
Ramgoolam highlighted Mauritius' 1.4 million tourist arrivals in 2025 and said the government aims to enhance the island's high-end tourism profile through sustainability, diversity and authenticity.
He said upgrades to airport infrastructure, digital connectivity and the legal framework, combined with the planned digital entry systems, would reinforce Mauritius' global tourism appeal.
The reform is expected to cut wait times and bureaucracy for all travellers, though no timeline has been set and current entry rules remain unchanged.
Most foreign nationals continue to benefit from visa-free short stays, while others require visas in advance or on arrival.
Travellers can already complete a Mauritius All-in-One Digital Travel Form to obtain a QR code for health checks, with paper landing cards still used by those who do not complete it beforehand.
Constance Group CEO Clément Rey also addressed the event, highlighting the company's economic contribution and its alignment with the government's sustainable development strategy.
