Egypt Steps Up Efforts To Boost Domestic Poultry Production Ahead Of Ramadan
The delegation from the General Union of Poultry Producers included its chairperson Mahmoud El-Anany, deputy chairperson Anwar El-Abd, and prominent investors such as Sherif Sabaq and Ziad Montasser.
Officials said the meeting forms part of wider efforts to strengthen local production, enhance sector sustainability, and protect the national economy from fluctuations in global markets. They reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting the domestic poultry industry, which represents investments worth an estimated EGP 200bn, provides jobs for 3.6 million workers, and produces around 1.6 billion chickens and 16 billion table eggs each year.
Discussions underscored the need to maintain price levels that reflect production costs while ensuring consumers have access to poultry and eggs at fair and affordable prices, particularly ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, when demand typically increases.
The meeting also reviewed plans to supply products to the Future of Egypt Authority. The authority's unified purchasing system emphasises prioritising locally produced goods at fair and balanced prices to ensure the availability of high-quality Egyptian products.
Participants examined ongoing initiatives to support the poultry industry through strategic projects aimed at producing veterinary serums, vaccines, and resilient chick breeds capable of withstanding climate-related challenges-helping reduce losses and increase productivity. The authority is also working to stabilise prices and improve market availability through its“Super Tawfeer” network, which now includes more than 1,300 outlets offering food products at equitable prices.
As part of broader preparations for Ramadan, the meeting addressed plans to inject substantial quantities of poultry and eggs into outlets operated by the Agriculture Ministry, the Supply Ministry, and the Future of Egypt Authority. Participants also agreed on the importance of incentivising additional investment and expanding production capacity to meet domestic demand sustainably and consistently.
